The Best Weekend Of My Life (so far)

An Idea:
So last Sunday I was texting Adam (he is in San Diego in infantry training) and I mentioned that Dani and I wanted to come on a road trip to California. We thought that it would be fun to visit him during our trip. Adam says that this weekend or memorial day weekend would be the best times to come visit so we thought it would be cool to go the next weekend. So I get a hold of Dani and she says that she could probably go. Her dad is coming back from the middle east next week, but she would be home in time. So we tell adam that we are coming.
The planning:
Dani and I realize we have like two days to plan this sudden road trip to California. We had never seriously talked about going until now. Dani had totaled her car before and she had a rental car. We decided to take her Yaris to california. We named it Zippy because it was just ... really cool. So we just planned in two days and bought some food.
Wednesday Night:
Dani and I pack all of our stuff in this little car, and we take off wednesday night. Dani forgets her purse so we have to backtrack, but that helped us miss rush hour. We drove for four hours to St. George. We stayed the night in Dani's grandparents house. It was empty and really nice pit stop. We went straight to bed that night and woke up early in the morning to mow the lawn and finish the drive to California.
Thursday:
We woke up and drove. The drive was fine. I drove through the Mojave Desert and into California. We got stopped at the border for carrying fruit, but luckily the oranges were originally from California. The dude was really rude about it cuz we didnt know whether he was signalling us to stop or to keep driving. He meant stop so we almost got in trouble. Dani was nervous so she insisted on driving while we were in California. and I dont blame her. They drive very differently over there. So we make it to Fallbrook, California. it is just east of Camp Pendleton, we are staying at Dani's cousins house. He was at Disneyland so we got his house to ourselves. We got there in the afternoon and we watched Lord of the Rings while Dani tried to fax something to her new work. We went to get Mexican food and we went and slept on Dave's (Dani's cousin) couches.
Friday:
We wake up the next morning and I went on a run around the neighborhood. I hackin went running forever, but i finally found my way back. I shower, but then they decided that we wanted to go to the beach. We drive an hour to Oceanside beach and we sit on the beach. It was beautiful, but the water was cold. We head home, and we got caught in some traffic. Dani and I decided to go to her cousin's lacrosse game. Adam got off early and he wanted us to come get him. He also informs us that he wants to bring a fellow marine along. His name is Jonah Nelsen and he is also from Utah. We hurry to the base, and Dani's military ID gets us onto the base. We got a little lost on the base and Dani got a little frustrated, but we finally found our way to Adam's place. We met Jonah and he was really cool. It was super awkward because Dani and I were like the only girls in sight. Haha, it was super bad, but we pack up in the car. Dani and I brought too much stuff and Adam and Jonah had to really squish in the back... oops. So we head up to Los Angeles. We were supposed to stay in Adam's cousins three million dollar beach house, but jeremy had accidentally double booked the house and so Jeremy booked us a hotel called Shutters. We finally make it there thanks to the miracle called GPS, but we just named her JJ. I would like to give a shout out to gps. I dont know how people did road trips without them. JJ and I grew very close. The gps and I became one, I spent many hours looking at that thing. It saved our lives!! Well we get to L.A. and make it to the hotel, and we pull in and they automatically valet park the car. We kind of are confused and we walk in and the hotel is so super fancy! We have duffel bags and pillows and everyone else is all dressed up and wealthy. We must have been a pretty comical sight to those people. We get to our rooms and they are so nice. We come to find out that this is one of the best hotels in L.A. (thank you Jeremy!) Adam mentions that David is in California so we give him a call. He says that he is recording at a friends house. We realize that he is also in Santa Monica and he is like five minutes away. We head over there and we came to the cutest house. David is still recording when we get there so we hang out with the other people there. They were so interesting to talk to and they were a little drunk. We talk for a couple hours and it is like midnight when David finally finishes recording. We go in to this way cool studio in the backyard and listen to his new song. It was really inspiring and good. We were talking, and they asked if we would snap and clap for the song. So we did, haha we were not very good but it didn't matter. And then they wanted us to be back up singers for the chorus. we thought it was a joke but they were serious. They got everyone to join in and sing with us, and then they doubled the track. We didnt sound very good but we were put in the song and it sounded awesome. We had so much fun together. By this time, it was like three in the morning. The boys had been up for almost 22 hours. We were all exhausted. Danielle said that if they use our voices and the song got big... we would get paid royalties.. hahahaha! we went to the hotel and went to sleep.
Saturday:
We slept in the next day and woke up to go out on the beach path. We borrowed Jeremy's segways and took them for a ride. It was so much fun. I had strained my calf running so i was kind of a gimp. We saw all of the shops and Dani did some shopping. Adam, Dani, David, and I went to the L.A. temple in the afternoon. Jonah stayed home because he didnt have his recommend with him. He napped, because he was so tired. He seemed to sleep everywhere that we went. It was really funny. The temple was beautiful! we had a great time. Adam baptized us, but the font was really shallow so I felt really bad for Adam. I was too tall. oops. We still had a great time though. We came back to the hotel and brought David back with us. We walked up to the pier and rode the ferris wheel. It was so much fun and the view was great. The ferris wheel was great and i think that it was the best part. We walked down the streets looking for a good place to eat afterwards. We finally found a place to eat at Buddha's Belly. It was delicious! We had a great time, and then we headed back to the hotel. Jonah, Adam, and Dani had to return the segways to Jeremy's house so David and I went to a cafe to get hot chocolate while they were gone. The cafe was great, and we came back and went to sleep because we were so tired.
Sunday:
David wanted to come to church with us so we had to make room for him in the Yaris... we were checking out of our hotel so we had to fit all of our luggage and five people in the car. You may think that is impossible, but false... we did it. We found a ward to go to, and we went. It was a great service. Adam and Jonah started to doze off, but they stayed awake...mostly. It was hilarious when every time that Dani looked at Adam, he would jerk awake. We called it her piercing glare. it was really funny to watch. Well after church, we had to drop off David on the way back to Camp Pendleton. We were running short on time so his aunt had to pick him up from the exit that we left him at. This whole drive i had David's luggage and a sleeping bag on my lap. We were really cramped in the car. I felt bad for the three boys sitting in the back seat... oops. We get back to Camp Pendleton with time to spare, so we drive through the base to get to a Subway. We ate and started to drive back. We almost hit a squirrel and Dani and I flipped. We made it there safely and said our goodbyes. Dani and I drove down to San Diego to stay with her aunt. We were so tired that night that we just watched tv and then went to bed at nine. We slept for almost twelve hours.
Monday:
We slept in, but as soon as we woke up, we got ready to leave. Dani and I decided that we were going to drive the entire way home today, so we did not have to sleep in St. George again. We started our drive, and finally got out of the city. We then started to listen to the second half of the seventh harry potter book on cd to keep us preoccupied. I drove to St. George, and then Dani finished the drive home with one of the less interesting pit stops at her Grandparents house. We arrived home at 11:30. and that concluded one of the best and craziest weekends I have ever experienced. I am grateful that we were safe, and it was amazing how everything seemed to work out perfectly.
