Cruise. Boo Ya!

Greetings, how is everyone's January?

I just have to start with this. There is one really funny thing that only female PE majors get to laugh at daily. ... We get to laugh at the male PE majors. yep, thats right. These guys can be seperated into a few groups.
Group 1: the men who are above 30 and coming back to school. They think they are superior to everyone in the room, and they can't help but comment about their many years of experience in the real world.
Group 2: The shy ones. They always sit in the back and never say a word. You forget that they are there completely after the first day of introductions. Usually they are also the smart ones.
Group 3: The normal guys. They just come, learn, and are usually married. (dang it!)
Group 4: I don't want to be racist but... the asians. They are in every PE class and they always sit together. They barely speak english, and they look like they have never lifted weights in their lives.
Last but not least. (The ones I laugh at everyday, I never get sick of it)
Group 5: The guys who check themselves out as they walk into the room. haha! I have never seen so much self absorbtion in my life. These guys walk in sit down, flex their muscles, and stare for the first five minutes of class. These guys are usually the athletes, but not always. They try to act all cool, but you can tell that their appearance means everything to them. I wonder if they know that other people notice how much they gawk at their own looks. All of these guys have to sit next to each other in the class. They also just stare at their reflection in the huge windows in the hallway. I don't know why, but I think it is just hilarious.

My classes are going well. I am a little overwhelmed, but I think that I will get into a comfortable pattern soon enough. I got a Gold's Gym pass, so now I won't get fat this winter.

The Cruise:
I went on a cruise last week to the western Caribbean. I had a blast, I can now say that I have been to hell and back. Hell wasnt that impressive, but I got a cool postcard.
The plane ride was different. A college student going to Tampa University sat next to me on the airplane. He started talking about marine biology and the genomes in sharks curing cancer... 2 hours later...... I had totally lost all understanding of the conversation. He mumbled his name so I have no idea who he is... oops. Once we got to Florida, he was in the same shuttle as us when my mom said, "Hey Janessa! That boy was sitting next to you! where was he from?!" I tell her he is from Chicago and that he is two feet away from her.... and everyone starts laughing. He scampered off pretty quick... sorry for the embarrassment dude. The bright side is at least my mom didn't ask what his name was... Because I had no idea! That would have been a slightly more awkward situation.
We had a couple formal dining nights on the cruise ship. It was fun to get dressed up and fancy. I didn't spill food on my dress(phew) and I didn't accidently trip the waiters. But! something embarrassing was bound to happen when I was in a fancy dress, heels, and on a rocking ship. We were out on the deck after dinner and we all had ice cream cones (best part of cruises) I was walking across the deck toward our group (which included my family and Mrs. Hansens family) They are all waiting for me to join them. I was trying to concentrate on not falling, but I totally slipped and almost fell on my face. Everyone laughed again. My sister was kind enough to tell me I looked all fancy and graceful, until I slipped, and then I just looked like an idiot. awesome.
My dad decided that we needed to go to this abandoned beach on Cozumel. The reason no one went to it because you had to go off road and onto a bumpy sand road. We had jeeps, so we went even though the renting place told us not to. We later found out that insurance would have been voided if they found out we were on the bad road. woops. We got there, and it isn't a sandy beach. It is a rock beach. But they had huge shells all over. We gathered sweet and free keepsakes. The Hansen family is really prone to motion sickness, so needless to say, they did not enjoy the forty minute bumpy drive. Nothing happened to the jeeps so we didn't get into trouble. We went to the beach three islands in a row. I got an okay tan. We also went on the zip line through the jungle. It was amazing and beautiful. (and no bugs!)
The food was absolutely fantastic. I ate way too much. The last day was really wavy, so all of us got sea sick, but it wasn't that bad. I would like to give a shout out to Dramamine. Motion sickness medicine is the best thing that ever happened. ever
We finished our cruise and exited the ship on Sunday morning. We waited at the airport for four hours, then we were on a plane for six hours. They made three stops between Tampa and Salt Lake. Ugh! The last stretch was delayed an hour because the pilots weren't there on time. So we got home at eleven p.m. and then I had to drive three and a half hours down to cedar city. I got four hours of sleep that night, and then I had five hours of classes the next morning... I am still suffering from slight sleep deprivation. I don't do well without sleep. haha! in fact, I get kind of hysterical. My room mate didn't have to witness Janessa's lack of sleep emotional breakdown. It didn't help that I was still kind of swaying and losing by balance from being on the ship for a week. I don't know if the lack of coordination was from exhaustion or from the ship rocking. I guess I will never know.
I have got to go catch up on homework. ugh

New Semester!

Greetings... uhhh ya

Christmas was awesome. I literally sat around my house for four weeks... I never found a job, and I just sat around and waited for the new semester to start. wow. I passed all of my classes last semester. yaya!

Okay so my classes went okay. I am in all PE classes. woot woot.
I managed to only slightly humiliate myself so far. I sat down for a class and suddenly all of these HUGE guys come sit next to me... They were freakin scary, and then their conversation was totally ... inappropriate, gross? I was seriously thinking that they were going to beat me up after class. o man. have you ever sat next to scary people? ugh, I guess i shouldn't judge them, but holy cow. I was in the middle of the class when suddenly my throat went totally dry. I don't know why, but I was like choking. I start coughing and trying to moisten my throat. The class is dead silent and the professor is talking in this monotone voice. People are kind of side staring at me. crap, and the scary dudes are freakin glaring at me. I try not to cough, so my face turns red. I am like literally choking in the front row next to these scary guys. The professor notices, and kind walks over next to me. I am pretty sure he was about ready to stop and help me out. But I stopped in time, my eyes are watering and i am bright red. Everyone is staring but I just keep pretending to take notes... ugh it was only slightly embarrassing on the first day, right?

I totally get to go on a cruise next week. woo hoo! I am missing the second week of school, but hopefully I don't miss too much stuff. And my biomechanics class has reminded me how much i hate physics... bleeeggghhhhh. Well, I am go sleep, now that i am early morning classes. (gag)

Birthdays and Hymn Books

The week of finals....... O Hackin'

I finally finished my last week of school and I am about to dive into my finals week. Woot woot. I am so ready for this to be over. I only have three finals and they will hopefully be pretty easy. So ya my birthday was last thursday.... it was extremely uneventful. I went to class and then came home... thats it. wow. But I did get a few texts, phone calls, and a million posts on Facebook. What did we do before facebook? We were supposed to watch smallville, eat muddy buddies, and go to a comedy show on friday for my birthday. For some reason there was no signal from the CW so we didnt get to watch smallville, and Everyone forgot about muddy buddies, and the comedy show really wasnt that funny.... All in all. A little disappointing. I guess I shouldnt get my hopes up. haha! At least my room mates got a delicious ice cream cake for me. That was super awesome.

I was in my last institute class of the semester and the teacher was in the middle of a super serious lecture, and I look down at the inside cover of the hymn book on the desk. I just break out laughing, and everyone just gives me the "you are totally weird/no one sat by you for the entire semester for a reason" look. After "the look" the teacher kept on teaching. BUT! before you judge me of my weirdness like the rest of the class. I have to tell you what I saw... Okay it isnt that funny or clever when I tell you.... you just had to see it.
The institute had obviously had a thief problem, so they had put a sticker on the inside of every hymn book that read: "STOLEN FROM: Cedar City Institute Building" hahahah. Maybe it is the finals week jitters that has my sense of humor derailed, but at least all of my fake friends from church who sat by me pretended to think it was funny. Well good luck this week! I am off to a good start.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

I got to go home this weekend and hang with family and friends. It was hackin awesome. Although the Utah weather has robbed me of my thanksgiving break... I had to leave Saturday night instead of Sunday night because of a stupid snowstorm. (But I admit it was a good idea, It is 8 inches and still snowing right now) Supposedly, there are a ton of car accidents on I-15 right now too. Wow this is cheerful.

Anyways, It was good to see family and good to see Harry Potter. But there were a few parts where all I could think was "Whaaaaat?" ugh bleh (during the movie and being with family haha!). The next movie is gonna be so sweet though! I spent the entire drive to Cedar City yesterday discussing Harry Potter and Smallville with a friend... Now I ask you. where does that put me on the dork scale? The drive from Cedar City to Salt Lake is soooo boring. And I absolutely HATE driving through Utah Valley. That is the reason why I will never attend BYU or UVU. I dont hate the schools, I just hate the location. Sorry!

Speaking of BYU vs. Utah. Utah wins by one point because they block the kick? How often does that happen? That is the only football game I will watch. And Yes, I am a BYU fan... ish. That is pretty complicated eh? I will never want to attend BYU, yet I root for their football team. In fact, I really want to go to the U for graduate school. uh? My mom graduated from the Y and my dad graduated from the U. My life is so complex and split... Can I just say that part of the reason I like BYU is because blue is my favorite color... haha lame reason? (I dont care at all about football, but school colors... is an ENTIRELY different story) I guess I don't mind the color red either. hmmm... i guess I am questioning my BYU loyalty. LIFE CRISIS!

Self Defense

hey hey hey

I have had an interesting few weeks. Final projects and tests have taken over my life. But I guess that is part of the college experience.

The Relief Society activity was about self defense this last week. We had it because a girl in our ward got mugged in a parking lot. They had two cops come in and talk to us about staying safe. I think they just made us all ridiculously paranoid. They talked about spyware and like cameras in our apartments and men hiding underneath our cars. They talked a lot about peeping toms and crazy stalker boyfriends. Most of the girls were completely dazed by the end of the meeting. They gave us all rape whistles and I won some sweet hackin Lipstick PepperSpray. (WHAAAA!) totally cool. I can't wait until someone tries to attack me so I can spray them with my pepperspray disguised as a lipstick tube.... I dont even wear lipstick. muahahaha. Then I will kick them where it hurts (I may or may not be watching to many action movies lately)

Also they totally convinced me to get a concealed weapons permit when I turn 21. Watch out world, Janessa is goin to be packin heat. The cop talked about his grandma and how she always has a weapon on her person. I just cant wait til I am old and people think I am defenseless.... but I am absolutely going to blow their minds when I turn into Granny Dangerous with a gun. O ya... (I am definitely watching to many movies lately)

Pity Friends, Babies, Cigarettes, and Group Projects

Happy November everyone!

So I have a sad/pathetic story. Do not think less of me because of it. It happened last week in church. I have been in salt lake and with family, so I hadn't been to this ward in a few weeks. I don't really know anyone there so I just went up to the front of the room and sat by myself. Big Mistake! Everything was fine until sunday school. (it was the fifth sunday, so we spent all three hours in the chapel) Anyways, the guy who was teaching sunday school was talking about being member missionaries and including everyone. He started to talk about how he sat by himself in his new ward, and that was when I knew I was in trouble. (i am still sitting alone in the front row) He says that everyone is sitting in groups, while I am shrinking in my seat just praying that he won't spot me. Of course he does see me and he says, "wait, everyone is sitting in a group except for you. what is your name?" The ENTIRE ward gives me the your a l0ser/i pity you look. I introduce myself and he asks, "is this your first week?" hahaha! nope, I have been here all semester. My reply results in about 5 seconds of awkward silence until the teacher just asks if he can sit by me next week..... o my hackin. you have got to be kidding me. I say yes, and by now I am bright red and the rest of the ward is just laughing at my loserness. So, of course, this week I had three people approach me and say hi and introduce themselves. The whole ward thinks I am loser with no friends. So now I have like ten pity friends in my ward... grrreat. Why couldn't I get through the semester without being humiliated in front of the entire ward?

I was at Walmart yesterday, and as I was checking out. The Walmart lady looks over my shoulder and stares...She then says, "ma'am! look at your baby" The baby in the other line had got into the mom's purse and found her cigarettes. The baby got a hold of a cigarette and put it in her mouth. The mom is still completely oblivious, while the older daughter sees and quickly gets rid of the cigarette. This is just a really funny mental image, but also kind of sad. I guess it is a "you had to be there story" But I thought that I would just share it anyways. haha, o man.

This week I worked on two final group projects....by my hacking self. Why do I get stuck with the loser groups who have the work ethic of a half dead sloth? I care too much about my grade to just fail the presentation and let the other group members learn a lesson. ugh I don't even know how to handle these kind of people. I know that I will always have to deal with people like this.... but I sure don't have to enjoy working with them though.

The test jitters (or spiders) and My amazing attempt at Raquetball

Greetings...

Life as we know it continues on. Midterms have come and gone. Is everyone ready for winter?

I had a test in my sports psychology class today. Dr. Lopour's tests are different, but I really like them. The test is not multiple choice, but it is fill in the blank and short answer. Most people say that these are harder, but I think that they are much easier. Well, I studied dilligently, and I was prepared for the test. Most of the people in the class were ill prepared and had the test jitters (but not me). I was relatively calm, but I had reached up to touch my ear when I felt a tickle on my fingers. I look at my hand and there is a spider right there! I fling it onto the desk and I am frozen thinking........huh? The girl next to me sees the spider and freaks out. I smash it with my foot, and I am still mildly confused. I think that dang spider was trying to throw me off my game. For the rest of my class I thought I was covered in spiders. (I totally aced the test though. score!) I went through a phase that I was completely terrified of spiders... but I guess I'm not anymore. The spider battle arena my brothers made may have made me realize that spiders aren't that bad... but still... I had a hackin spider crawling on me right before a huge test. gross.
My sports class just started the raquetball section. All I knew about raquetball was Shar was really good at it. yep. So Dr. Taylor spent thirty minutes trying to teaching me how to play hackin raquetball. I am pretty sure people just sat and laughed at me while I tried to hit the stupid ball towards the front wall. ugh. I hit my self with the ball and raquet several times, and the two other girls with me just laughed at my pathetic attempts at being coordinated. The second day went better, but I still have this nasty habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. (i.e. ball flying at my face, with opponent in mid swing)
Have you ever tried to get into a class, and all of the faculty just give you the run around. I am trying to get into this class, but I need special permission. My advisor sent me to Dr. Lambson, he sent me to Dr. Taylor, she sent me on a raging hunt for the guy who is supposedly teaching the class. I try to look him up. He is not on the faculty list (as far as SUU is concerned... this guy doesn't exist) Are you hackin' kiddin me? I feel like I am hunting for a mythical creature. Just put me in the classsss! So registration starts tomorrow... I may or may not wake up at midnight tonight and be the first to register for next semester classes. Now I ask you... Am I cool or ridiculously lame? ponder that.
