Self Defense

hey hey hey

I have had an interesting few weeks. Final projects and tests have taken over my life. But I guess that is part of the college experience.

The Relief Society activity was about self defense this last week. We had it because a girl in our ward got mugged in a parking lot. They had two cops come in and talk to us about staying safe. I think they just made us all ridiculously paranoid. They talked about spyware and like cameras in our apartments and men hiding underneath our cars. They talked a lot about peeping toms and crazy stalker boyfriends. Most of the girls were completely dazed by the end of the meeting. They gave us all rape whistles and I won some sweet hackin Lipstick PepperSpray. (WHAAAA!) totally cool. I can't wait until someone tries to attack me so I can spray them with my pepperspray disguised as a lipstick tube.... I dont even wear lipstick. muahahaha. Then I will kick them where it hurts (I may or may not be watching to many action movies lately)

Also they totally convinced me to get a concealed weapons permit when I turn 21. Watch out world, Janessa is goin to be packin heat. The cop talked about his grandma and how she always has a weapon on her person. I just cant wait til I am old and people think I am defenseless.... but I am absolutely going to blow their minds when I turn into Granny Dangerous with a gun. O ya... (I am definitely watching to many movies lately)

Pity Friends, Babies, Cigarettes, and Group Projects

Happy November everyone!

So I have a sad/pathetic story. Do not think less of me because of it. It happened last week in church. I have been in salt lake and with family, so I hadn't been to this ward in a few weeks. I don't really know anyone there so I just went up to the front of the room and sat by myself. Big Mistake! Everything was fine until sunday school. (it was the fifth sunday, so we spent all three hours in the chapel) Anyways, the guy who was teaching sunday school was talking about being member missionaries and including everyone. He started to talk about how he sat by himself in his new ward, and that was when I knew I was in trouble. (i am still sitting alone in the front row) He says that everyone is sitting in groups, while I am shrinking in my seat just praying that he won't spot me. Of course he does see me and he says, "wait, everyone is sitting in a group except for you. what is your name?" The ENTIRE ward gives me the your a l0ser/i pity you look. I introduce myself and he asks, "is this your first week?" hahaha! nope, I have been here all semester. My reply results in about 5 seconds of awkward silence until the teacher just asks if he can sit by me next week..... o my hackin. you have got to be kidding me. I say yes, and by now I am bright red and the rest of the ward is just laughing at my loserness. So, of course, this week I had three people approach me and say hi and introduce themselves. The whole ward thinks I am loser with no friends. So now I have like ten pity friends in my ward... grrreat. Why couldn't I get through the semester without being humiliated in front of the entire ward?

I was at Walmart yesterday, and as I was checking out. The Walmart lady looks over my shoulder and stares...She then says, "ma'am! look at your baby" The baby in the other line had got into the mom's purse and found her cigarettes. The baby got a hold of a cigarette and put it in her mouth. The mom is still completely oblivious, while the older daughter sees and quickly gets rid of the cigarette. This is just a really funny mental image, but also kind of sad. I guess it is a "you had to be there story" But I thought that I would just share it anyways. haha, o man.

This week I worked on two final group projects....by my hacking self. Why do I get stuck with the loser groups who have the work ethic of a half dead sloth? I care too much about my grade to just fail the presentation and let the other group members learn a lesson. ugh I don't even know how to handle these kind of people. I know that I will always have to deal with people like this.... but I sure don't have to enjoy working with them though.

The test jitters (or spiders) and My amazing attempt at Raquetball

Greetings...

Life as we know it continues on. Midterms have come and gone. Is everyone ready for winter?

I had a test in my sports psychology class today. Dr. Lopour's tests are different, but I really like them. The test is not multiple choice, but it is fill in the blank and short answer. Most people say that these are harder, but I think that they are much easier. Well, I studied dilligently, and I was prepared for the test. Most of the people in the class were ill prepared and had the test jitters (but not me). I was relatively calm, but I had reached up to touch my ear when I felt a tickle on my fingers. I look at my hand and there is a spider right there! I fling it onto the desk and I am frozen thinking........huh? The girl next to me sees the spider and freaks out. I smash it with my foot, and I am still mildly confused. I think that dang spider was trying to throw me off my game. For the rest of my class I thought I was covered in spiders. (I totally aced the test though. score!) I went through a phase that I was completely terrified of spiders... but I guess I'm not anymore. The spider battle arena my brothers made may have made me realize that spiders aren't that bad... but still... I had a hackin spider crawling on me right before a huge test. gross.
My sports class just started the raquetball section. All I knew about raquetball was Shar was really good at it. yep. So Dr. Taylor spent thirty minutes trying to teaching me how to play hackin raquetball. I am pretty sure people just sat and laughed at me while I tried to hit the stupid ball towards the front wall. ugh. I hit my self with the ball and raquet several times, and the two other girls with me just laughed at my pathetic attempts at being coordinated. The second day went better, but I still have this nasty habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. (i.e. ball flying at my face, with opponent in mid swing)
Have you ever tried to get into a class, and all of the faculty just give you the run around. I am trying to get into this class, but I need special permission. My advisor sent me to Dr. Lambson, he sent me to Dr. Taylor, she sent me on a raging hunt for the guy who is supposedly teaching the class. I try to look him up. He is not on the faculty list (as far as SUU is concerned... this guy doesn't exist) Are you hackin' kiddin me? I feel like I am hunting for a mythical creature. Just put me in the classsss! So registration starts tomorrow... I may or may not wake up at midnight tonight and be the first to register for next semester classes. Now I ask you... Am I cool or ridiculously lame? ponder that.

Last Names, Air Conditioning, and My Own Old Lady Choir

A couple of interesting things happened to me this week. I was in Relief Society, and the girl finished the lesson. I was totally ready to get out of there and go home. The presidency decided that we all needed to stand up and introduce ourselves. This made us get out eight minutes overtime! (on a FAST sunday) (Not that I was keeping track or anything) So anyways, this girl stood up and introduced herself, ... at first I thought that I heard her wrong, but no. Her last name is... (pause for dramatic effect) Savage. That. is. the. coolest. last. name. ever. I would die to have my last name be Savage. "Hi, my name is Janessa Savage" muahahahha! I think that you could get away with so much crap if that was your last name. People automatically wonder if you really are a savage. Awesome! Also, a good last name would be Rogue. tee hee. This is what I foresee in my future. (a cool last name... ? is that lame or weird, I can't decide). No one would ever forget your last name, especially if you acted like a savage or a rogue. This is the best excuse to act crazy. I may or may not introduce myself as Janessa Rogue Savage from now on... (just to warn you)
My room in my apartment is very plain. But there is one thing that drives me crazy. The air conditioning vent is right under the desk. So the AC turns on and the lower half of my body FREEZES! I just sit at this desk and wonder why I am shivering when it is ninety degrees outside. Bah! Ridiculous! (and this is the story of my pathetic life as a college student). I know that it will hopefully be nice when it is winter time, but I am on edge about the vent under my frostbitten toes. Don't mess with Janessa Rogue Savage (she is feeling more and more like a savage rogue)
Finally, I want to tell you about my 8 AM swimming class. I wake up early and jump into a pool. (not the best start to a full day of classes) We start swimming, and then we hear this eery moaning coming from the other side of the pool... It is super creepy if you don't know what is happening. I start to listen closer and I realize that people are singing... These (really) old ladies have water aerobics in the shallow end. And they sing throughout their entire workout. No offense, but they don't exactly sound like the Tabernacle Choir. Who sings during water aerobics?!? creepy. I recognize a couple of the songs, and they are really old and classic (and depressing) The echo is so bad that I cannot decipher most of the old lady songs. My coach said that the lifeguards have all of the songs memorized. (Those poor poor lifeguards, I pity them and fear for their sanity) So the entire forty minutes of lap swimming is improved by old women moaning/singing on the other side of the pool. (it is the best part of my day?.... not! Food is the best part of my day! how could you think otherwise)So I thought that I would just tell you about my Monday and Wednesday mornings, (watching people struggle to swim, and watch the life force of old women ebb from their mortal bodies via their vocal chords) I hope that you enjoyed my lovely experiences as a hackin college student. Ciao!

Utilities and Chocolate Covered Almonds

Happy Sunday everyone.

You would not believe what happened this weekend. On Friday I came home from running and turned on the shower. I kinda noticed that the water was not getting very warm, but I was so hot and sweaty I didn't even care. Later that day my roommate asked if our gas was turned on, because she couldn't get the hot water to work. We both soon realized that our gas has been turned off. I ask my roommate if the manager ever told her if we had to do anything when we moved in and she said no. At the first of the year my roomie promised to make sure that everything was worked out with the utilities so we didn't have to worry about. Naturally, she forgot to do it. They turned off our gas, and the manager never even mentioned that we had to call the gas company and change it to our names. o hackin.... so due to my roommate's and the manager's forgetfullness and lack of responsibility. I had to spend a full weekend without any hot water. grrrreeeaattt. I can also confirm that cold showers are absolutely no fun, (unless you go running beforehand). oi. I am such a wimp when it comes to the cold. I don't know how I survived three seasons of lacrosse practice in January and February.
Since the beginning of my life, I have been very dependant of food. (not just physically, but emotionally also.) Some girls need boyfriends or shopping to deal with stuff, but not me. I need food. And the food that I have been using to eat my feelings lately is chocolate covered almonds from Costco... ya... It is hackin delicious and heaven on earth (I reccommend them) BUT I ran out of them on Thursday, and there is no Costco in Cedar City. So I have had a slight break down this weekend due to my addiction to chocolate covered almonds... (Pathetic story) I watched the stupid Benjamin Button movie and ate the almonds the whole three hours... uhhhhh wow I am so cool. AND I have two tests to study for, and I totally blew off studying so I could eat and watch pointless television. .. I may or may not gain a million pounds this semester. I hope that next semester that I will be so busy that I can't afford to procrastinate. And for those of you who know me... I NEVER procrastinate... until now. Well, I am guessing that my bad test scores will get me motivated again soon. So I will just have to tough it out until I bomb these tests. (And tough it out means watching pointless television while desperately craving chocolate covered almonds almost to the point of insanity...) so.... on that happy note. I am going to go watch a stupid movie.
Later.

Pine Trees, Dishes, and the Cedar City Church Scene

Happy Birthday to my brothers! Artem's birthday was yesterday, and Devin's birthday is tomorrow. yay!

Alright. down to business.
My classes are going well. I am doing prerequisites right now, so my classes are pretty easy. My swimming class is surprisingly easy. and I am half way done with my biology online class. Score! I am trying to motivate my hospitality management group to do the project right now instead of waiting til the end of the semester. I will let ya know how that works out.

I was running to one of my classes and I passed this gigantic pine tree on campus. As I pass the tree I see this girl just crawl out from underneath the branches, and then I see the guy come out too. They start folding a plastic tarp and a sleeping bag! They are totally living in the giant pine tree on campus. what? Now that is cheap housing. The hackin pine tree has some secret hide out spot underneath. That is probably where all of the people go to smoke or something between classes. o man, I probably had the stupidest look on my face when the girl popped out of no where!

My roommates don't believe in cleanliness. I have never seen a pile of dishes grow that high out of the sink. wow. I want to just clean their dumb dishes, but I don't know what cupboards they put them in when they are clean. My room is above the kitchen, and my roomies forget that they are cooking and they burn a lot of food. Almost everyday I run downstairs to make sure our apartment is not on fire. oi. The story of my life.

I went to my new ward today. and.... The girls outnumber the guys three to one.. of course. always in cedar city. I walk in and everyone is just watching (and judging) everyone else. None of the guys are good looking, so now, (naturally) I am not even going to try and get ready for church anymore. yes! ponytail and whatever dress i can find each sunday. score!

Well, I don't have much else to say about school, except my incapability in finding employment. (and even I don't want to hear me whine about it)

Peace out. I gotta go downstairs and see if anything is on fire again.

The summer AND the first of the year college impressions

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I apologize for not writing in so very long. It has been a crazy couple of weeks. Well, let us start from the beginning.

Summer

After my cali trip.... I worked worked worked. I roofed with my dad a few times over the summer. It was a good job, but I don't know if I could do it for the rest of my life. My brothers said that I only came to work because I had entertainment value. I was only useful to crack stupid jokes and complain?! I doubt it! I worked my butt off. Although I do admit that I had a few break downs that could be comical. One in particular occurred in Artic Circle. We had just finished a roof and the WHOLE time there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It must have been a 105 degrees on that roof. The moment we stepped into the artic circle, a gigantic thundercloud came and the temp dropped like twenty degrees. uhhh This is what was said, "I'm tired"(devin) "I'm cold" (dad) "I'M PISSED, Look at all the clouds!" (me) they all turn and look at me and I start laugh crying and I couldn't stop. My frustration finally took hold and I am pretty sure everyone was staring at us because we all couldn't stop laughing (and me kind of crying). o boy. My dad didn't invite me to come help them as much after that little public emotional breakdown. I complained a lot, but my dad couldn't fire me cuz I am his daughter. yep... oops. maybe I should work on having self control.
Lifeguarding. I saved two kids from drowning this summer... and lost ten thousand brain cells. Lifeguarding is gossip central. Everyone sits in the guard room and just gossips about everyone else. I know way too much about most of the lifeguards love lifes... yuck. and I witnessed some pretty gross stuff at the pool. I am certain that I am never going to take my kids to a public pool... it is gross. vomit, diarrhea, poop, unidentifable human excrement. I have seen it all. The crazy people that I have seen have not been much better. wow. I have developed a great appreciation for clouds and lightning. It is the best thing, In FACT there was a poem written for clouds. It was written by a brilliant poet while he or she was working on a roof... this is how it goes:
Clouds
In the beginning there was only sun,
And that my friend is not fun.
On the horizon came a beautiful sight,
A cloud showed up for an epic fight.
Against all odds the fluffy clouds won!
And this poem is thanks for what they have done.
Although the sun provides vitamin D,
Clouds... you are cancer free.
When you are high in the sky you look kind of lazy,
But when you aren't there I go crazy.
I don't care whether your black, grey, or white.
I want you here day and night.
Sometimes you rain on my parade,
But at least you give me some shade.
I always await your return
To save me from a wicked sunburn.
This poem is coming to an end,
And all I have to say is clouds are my best friend.
Written by Pistachio the Poet and Friends
yes I know that the poem was absolutely brilliant!
So I also ran a 5K with half of my family. I didn't do well, and Artem kicked my trash! what? I was shocked. I didnt win any stupid prizes and I had to go straight to work afterwards. ugh. So after that epic failure I had my half marathon to look forward to. Shawn, Chelsea, and I went down to Bryce Canyon and I proceeded to almost kill myself by running for 2 hours straight. holy crap that sucked. But is was rewarding, and now I can say that I did it. my official time was 2:02:08. Dang! I want two hours flat but whatevs. I may or may not run a half marathon again... Shawn just totally kicked my trash and surprised himself by beating his previous time with NO TRAINING! bah!
Okay, what else happened this summer? O! Shawn and Chelsea bought a house and a puppy. The puppy is so cute! Toby is a corge who can get whatever he wants by just staring deep into your eyes... puppy charm power! I also had a Harry Potter phase and reread all of the books and watched all of the movies... yep I am so cool. and! Artem is now as tall as me, he definitely fits into our family perfectly... but i DO NOT want to be the shortest sibling... ugh. Aubrey is playing varsity volleyball and my brothers and parents are just being married and stuff...
okay! moving on.
College (sophomore year)
I have my own private room and bathroom. I am in heaven! My new apartment is off campus and also a 15 minute walk.... (not so fun) But! I have a car this time. awesome! I have two roommates. they are sisters named Tori and Taylor. (although they have a bit of a swearing problem and they are completely obsessed with The OC.) They are from St. George and pretty normal. I do have to deal with the sister fighting stuff but they are cool. We are all way blonde, so we are the blonde girl apartment on the block. The problem is that they both have boyfriends and I definitely don't. so I am the hackin' oddball of the group. They are making dinner tomorrow and they want me to ask someone to come..... crap! I don't know any guys. So I will be the fifth wheel on that date,.. greatttt. So, my mom helped me move in, cuz she is the best! I dont know what I would do without her. It took me three days to get my internet to work. bah! hackin. The management for these apartments is not very good. in fact, the dudes really creep me out. But I am all set for this semester and I hope that I can survive swimming class.
My classes seem pretty cool. The problem with a small school like SUU is that I keep running into everyone. and I am terrible with names. They come up and start talking to me and I don't remember which class we had together... uh awkward. Another strange thing is that most of my professors this semester are doctors... So I call them Dr. whatever, and I find them much more intimidating. Is that weird? So I have this random sports skills class and we are playing doubles volleyball, pickleball, racquetball, and social dance. haha! I am going to look like a fool. Shar should have taught me how to play racquetball before i came down here. o well. I talked to my advisor (DR.! Lambson) (also totally intimidated by the Dr. thing) and he said I could graduate in three semesters... yesh! score. Except the two semesters after this one are going to absolutely totally stink! it is gonna be so hard!
My ward seems okay. I came in late to sacrament and everyone just stared at me as I found a seat... It is pretty funny cuz all the freshmen boys are on the prowl. haha! They are like passing out their numbers to all of the girls. it is pretty funny. well, my mom and I went shopping for food. We got tons of food, but I am too lazy to cook any of it! My appetite isn't as big now that I am not at home. I go to the kitchen and try to cook dinner... and I just end up eating pudding and fruit leather. oops. and to think that I wanted to minor in Nutrition. so I am going to conclude this blog with a quote that is completely true....
"Youth is wasted on the young, and wealth is wasted on the old."
